Spiritual Accounting
Introduction

by Rabbi Mordecal GoldsteIn, shlita,
Rosh Yeshiva of the Diaspora Yeshiva
for the Adaptation of Sefer Cheshbon Hanefesh

The Talmud, (B'rachos 19a) , teaches us that "If you see a talmid chacham (Torah Scholar) transgress at night, do not think perhaps he has done t'shuva' ("returned" to HaShem and from his transgression), for he has definitely done so by the next morning." In order to insure the proper service of his Creator, based upon personal and ethical growth and change, it is inconceivable for a Torah sage not to engage in regular, thorough and deep self-analysis. The absolute necessity of conducting such a cheshbon hanefesh (spiritual accounting) by the Torah True Jew is obvious.

We are grateful to HaShem for the opportunity to present the English-speaking Jewish community with an effective system of cheshbon hanefesh for character perfection.. It is our hope and prayer that with the proper love and awe of Heaven, those who are seeking perfection in the service of the Al-mighty and who are striving to become talmidel chachamim will be aided by this system. To all those who dedicated themselves to this task, "May the Al-mighty establish their path and pave it with success upon success, thus blessing them with the fulfillment of His words, 'A man is led in the direction he desires.' " (Makos l0b) .

For the honor of the Torah and all who study it.
